County Engineer – O’Brien County, Iowa

The O’Brien County Board of Supervisors is seeking qualified applicants for the position of O’Brien County Engineer. Applicant must have an Iowa Professional Engineering License in Civil Engineering.
O’Brien County (population 14,182) is located in Northwest Iowa with Primghar as the county seat. O’Brien County has two hospitals, three public schools, four private schools, area community college, outdoor recreational areas for hunting and camping along with being located near the Iowa Great Lakes region providing recreational and vacationing opportunities. Some major cities near O’Brien County are Sioux City, Iowa, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Minneapolis, St. Paul, Minnesota.
O’Brien County is led by a five-person Board of Supervisors. The Secondary Road department has approximately 25 full time employees. The engineer plans, coordinates, assigns and supervises all engineering and construction work performed by the County Secondary Road department and independent contractors. In addition, the engineer will prepare and let contract documents for projects, present an annual budget and five-year construction program identifying future road improvement projects. The ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department personnel, other governmental agencies, other county departments, contractors, and the public is essential.
Salary range for applicants with a professional engineering license in Civil Engineering is $125,000 – $145,000 based on experience and qualifications and includes an excellent benefits package.
